History of Porn

by Beth Divine 4 Dec 2017

Men have long been fascinated with sex – or perhaps Mankind is a more accurate word to use as women do have an equal interest in obtaining sexual satisfaction – it is just that the female sexual voice is often unheard in traditional narratives. Pornographic or erotic images have been found as far back as any record shows – cave paintings often depict figures with boastfully large erect penises, and sexual gratification has long been touted as one of the most satisfying experiences that a person can have.

From wall paintings, to Catherine the Great’s extremely naughty salon, to dirty postcards, depictions of sexual acts have long titillated us as a species, and it is no small surprise that within a day or two of photography being perfected, a woman was persuaded to bare her breasts for the camera, or that within a year of filming techniques being introduced, a series of films depicting strip-teases and other arousing acts were released. In fact, porn is one of the industries that embraces every new advance in technology with enthusiasm, going from black and white stills, to colour, from black and white silent films to full technicolour, surround sound, seizing on 3D advances, and now moving into virtual reality technology, even as it perfects itself!

Various laws have tried to keep porn out of the hands of the poorer people, the ‘common’ man, who is apparently unable to control himself. Significantly, there is almost always provision for someone, usually someone powerful and connected to law-makers, to be able to view pornographic material for a number of reasons, which can range from ‘research’, ‘to ensure that the material is, in fact, offensive’, to anything that they can think of to ensure that they, at least, get to keep getting their rocks off! Denmark was the first country to legalise porn movies, and the country quickly garnered a reputation for making and distributing ‘blue movies’. The name was given to the porn film (originally titled ‘Fuck’) by Andy Warhol, due to a processing error which rendered the film with an overall bluish cast, an ironic life-imitating-art happenstance that Warhol decided to embrace!

With the advent of photography and film, porn took off in a big way. Now, instead of needing a talented artist to paint – whether from life or not – naked men and women in a state of passion, or in alluring poses, cameramen could pay models to strip off or perform for them. This was especially important for porn films.

From static views and small-screen films, to up-close-and-personal in the heart of the action shots, porn has, over the years, moved closer and closer to the viewer, allowing ever more intimate access to the performers.

Virtual reality porn is simply the next step in this process and it has already brought the viewer into the heart of the action, becoming one of the players in the story, seen and acknowledged by the other characters.

Porn has been around for a very long time: it is unlikely to be going anywhere for a long time to come – so pick your favourite, lie back, and enjoy a mind-blowing orgasm with a gang-bang, threesome, or other fantasy of your own choosing!
