Can watching VR porn be considered cheating?

by The Red Ghost 7 Dec 2017
We have seen in various posts how virtual reality porn is becoming increasingly similar to real sex, due to:
  • The immersion offered by virtual reality headset;
  • The always increasing resolution and field of view of such headsets (e.g. Pimax 8K);
  • The use of binaural audio, that can trigger psuedo-orgasmic sensations like ASMR;
  • The experiments with integration of erotic senses like smell and taste;
  • The use of teledildonics devices, that let your private parts feel as they were having real sex.

In the future we'll also directly have brain plugs that will inject the erotic sensations directly into our brain, making us feel as we're having real sex... at this point, there will be no difference between watching this VR porn video and having sex with that beautiful girl.

So, the more we go on with porn simulations, the more the difference between sex and porn will become littler. At some point, it is obvious that some ethic questions will arise and surely the most popular one will be the one regarding cheating. Having a perfect simulation of a sexual intercourse with a woman while you're engaged with another girl (or a boy, if you're a girl), can be considered cheating?

The question has no easy answer:
  • From one side, it is not... since you're just watching a simulation. That is not a real girl, she's not really in your bed having sex with you. It is like an erotic dream, it doesn't count;
  • On the other side, it is. You're feeling exactly the same sensations as if you were doing sex with another person in real life. And you chose to do that on purpose. I recall having had a talk with a psychologist about VR and he told me a very interesting and mind-blowing thing: from a psychological standpoint, there's not a better reality between VR and RR (real-reality)... these are just realities we're in. There's a theory saying that actually we may already live in a simulation, so maybe we're already doing simulated sex all the time. So, the fact that we do sex in a real or a simulated reality shouldn't make that big difference for our brain, we're doing sex anyway. So it counts as sex.

I think that most girls would consider that cheating: I know women that consider cheating even watching standard porn on a flat screen: the reason is that in their opinion, you're anyway fantasizing about another person; furthermore they feel insecure about the fact that if you need to masturbate watching other women, maybe you're not sexually satisfied by them or you don't like them much. I think that a perfect simulation would make them feel even more angry.

What about my personal opinion? Well, I'm more on the "no" side, even if it is really a grey area. I think it is not cheating because, even if perfect, a video is still a set of pre-recorded interactions and there's no authentic intimacy at all. It is not a girl having sex with me, it is a program just masturbating me in a very evoluted fashion. She's not having sex with me, she just recorded some interactions and then a computer program is applying them to me. VR porn is already immersive and here on PornFoxVR you can already find perfect examples of extraordinary videos involving a lot of beautiful girls, but for me watching them is just a way to enjoy my time, not a substitution of a girlfriend.

In any case, I think that the best answer to the question is the one that a redditor provided to me: "If your mate agrees that you use such experiences, it is not cheating. Otherwise, it is cheating". A very simple answer, yet the most effective.
